Mix - 2 parts Art, 2 parts Science, then add a splash of Alcohol
Last week at our Lextant happy hour our team somehow turned a simple question (How long did it take you to hatch that?) into what I feel just might be the next TV reality show to rival the likes of Storage Wars. “SketchWars?”
Long story short, we had everyone hatch a predetermined rectangle and timed them doing it. Of course our curiosity got the best of us. Like any slightly peculiar group of designers and researchers we couldn’t just stop there. We started wondering, how would you go about judging them to pick a winner? What criteria would you use? How do we eliminate bias? Who would win if you judged them just based on your “gut feeling” vs. a specific set of criteria?
Our findings:
1) Avoid being the one to create the judging process, it is an imperfect science
2) If you have ever placed third in art/design competition, you actually might have been first, so kudos to you! (we had people jump +/- 3 positions)
A big thanks to Stefani for creating this beautiful sketch note that documents it all. I love how this graphic just so happens to capture the essence of our company (design meets research and translated for all to enjoy).
