My Top Ten Most Memorable Research Moments

Design research has been my life for the past 10 years, and has shaped the way I think and work. Here are a few of the most meaningful and memorable moments that I’ve experienced at Lextant so far.
10. The day I found out I was traveling to Japan for ten days—just three months after I started my job.
9. Seeing our research findings featured in a magazine and distributed nationwide.
8. Sitting in a 15’ x15’ room covered floor to ceiling with data, ready and waiting to be organized.
7. Watching the legendary Bill Verplank draw as he presented at an IIT design research conference. Watch a demo.
6. Being mistaken for a cardiologist during a medical device interview with another cardiologist.
5. Watching client VPs, directors, and managers from all over the world smile and nod their heads in unison as we presented our findings.
4. Learning that two of our clients received promotions based on the work we did with them.
3. Every time a research participant has cried during an interview, out of sheer emotion, expressing pain or joy on the topic.
2. The first time I sat on a participant’s living room floor, watching them create a dream with stickers.
And the number one most memorable moment…
1. The day I realized that design wasn’t meaningful without a person to experience it.
